Our Chicken Coop

When we first bought our farm house, Mark started to talk about all the farm animals he wanted to get, goats, chickens, geese. At first I thought he was kidding, but then when he brought over this old giant feeder from the neighboring farm I knew he wasn't. So I thought "Umm, I I know nothing about raising chickens, but I guess I will learn." So I turned to Backyardchickens.com for all my questions. We ordered some chickens from my visiting teacher and then started working on converting this old feeder into a chicken coop. I still have some more finishing touches to do, but it is pretty much finished. Alyssa gathers the eggs every day and helps keep the chickens feed and watered. We told her that if she helps enough than we will let her keep the money from selling the extra eggs. The girls are doing so good. We have 11 hens and are getting 11 eggs a day! So anyone wanting farm fresh eggs, Alyssa is selling them for $1/dozen.

Jimmy & Julie Get Married--Roomate Reunion

The past two weekends I have been to SLC for my old college roomie and twin eagle, Julie Hrncirik's bridal shower and wedding. We had so much fun. It has been a while since I've laughed so hard. I am bummed that we didn't take a picture of us all together though. I am posting one from one of our other roomate reunions. My sweet sister, Genessa rode down with me to the wedding so I didn't have to make the drive alone. It was so fun to get to spent the day with her and baby Bridger too. And no worries Julie..I deleted that video and pictures from the shower, after I had another good laugh first.

Our Town Is Finally Seeing Some Good Fortune!

About six months ago, I felt like our town had died after our little grocery store shut down. I was pretty sad about it and was worried that worse things were in store for our community. I got a phone call the other day from my neighbor asking me to attend a meeting tonight at city hall. I just got home and am feeling some hope that maybe our sad town can come back from the dead. Hooray!! Our community was selected to receive a major grant! We just have to gather people in the community to participate in the 18 month Horizon program so we can learn community leadership skills and figure out the things in the community that need done or changed. Because I attended the meeting, I am on the committee. Amazingly, I am actually pretty excited.
