Another Cooked Goose??

Today, while Mark and I were Christmas shopping, Mark's Dad called us and said he saw a 11 lb. spring goose at the grocery store for $55.00 ! Whoa, I had no idea our meal the other night was such a delicacy. When we came home, our other goose was biting at one of our chicken's heads! So it looks like we will be having another nice dinner--Just in time for the Holidays!

We Cooked Our Goose!--Really!

Once again I am slow to post, but this one is blogworthy, so I copied and pasted from an email that I sent my Aunt Cheryl.
"One of our geese has started to be mean and has been biting a lot. It tackled Cole yesterday and bit through his pants and gave him and ugly bruise. I have been complaining about the geese forever because they eat a lot of feed and now that they are bitting so hard, I really don't like them! I guess Mark had had enough of the biting because it got him too. So tonight, Mark disappeared for a little while and then I heard him come in the house. I went in the kitchen to see what he was doing and there was something that resembled a raw turkey sitting in a pan. I knew we hadn't bought a turkey...OMG! That was the Goose! He wants to eat it tomorrow night. I know that is the circle of life, but it was our pet!! I have never ate one of my pets before, since I never grew up on a farm. So I am having a hard time with the whole thing and kinda wanna puke. I am happy that we will be going through less feed though. We have been spending $38 a month!!"
So I didn't end up cooking it Monday night like I was suppose to, but when Tuesday came I decided it would be a good night to cook it because I had a meeting at City Hall and wouldn't be home to help eat it. I found out how to cook it on the Internet. Mark started to dish the kids up just as I was leaving. I heard him tell Alyssa that he had a surprise for her after dinner. (The surprise was telling her she had just ate her pet goose) I thought, "Oh No, I could have a 5 year old vegetarian when I come home. Turns out, the kids and hubby devoured the goose, like it was Thanksgiving and Alyssa wasn't disturbed at all. She thought it tasted really good and said "Mom, that is what farmers do, they raise their animals".

More on Halloween

My Grandma found a picture of me as a strawberry! The picture I remembered is still lost, but I am so happy she found this one. The spider is my Uncle Travis. He is just a little older than me and we were raised together so he is really like my brother. My Mom made both the costumes. I even wore the spider costume to a dance when I was in 9th grade.

Halloween

Our Jack-O-Lanterns

Alyssa had to do a "trick' before she could get her "treat" at G-ma & G-pa Hitz's

At Our Ward Trunk or Treat

Cole was a Rooster for our Ward Trunk-or-Treat because this costume is so warm. I thought it would be cute to get a picture of him out by our chicken coop, but the hens wouldn't come near him with that stick. Such a Boy!

Pumpkin and Strawberry

This was my strawberry costume when I was little. I just had to re glue pumpkin seeds on it and sew the green leafy top. I wanted to post a picture of when I wore it, but can't seem to find one at my Mom's. I think my Grandma may have one, so I will have to post it latter.

Great Grandpa Brown's 94th Birthday

My Mom, Grandma & Grandpa Smith, my kiddos and myself got to go to Hurricane for my Great Grandpa Brown's 94th birthday party. It was so great to get to see all our family that we have down there, since the last time I went, Alyssa was two years old. Grandpa's party was great. We had a big meal and then did some line dancing. Before the party we took a drive out to Apple Valley to see Grandma & Grandpa's old house so the kids could nap and couldn't resist driving a little further out to Colorado City. I read the book, Escape, by Carolyn Jessop and have been a little fascinated with the whole polygamy thing. All the stuff about Warren Jeffs on the news has just made me more curious. It was so WEIRD driving through the town and a little scary too! We got some stares and weren't sure if we were being followed at times. We didn't have time to check out their stores though, so we will do that on our next trip. The day before we came home we took a quick trip into Zion's National Park. We were able to come home with a big bag of pomegranates that came from my Grandma's yard and a big bag of Brigham tea that G-pa Smith and Jack picked for us. We had a such a great time and staying an extra day wasn't enough to do all we wanted so hopefully we will get to go again around Easter.
